In Rutvi's words
Hello, I am a counselling psychologist based in Mumbai with over two years of experience providing individual therapy across organizational and private practice settings. I hold a master's degree in counselling psychology from SNDT University. I've also completed a course on queer affirmative counselling practices from Mariwala Health Initiative.
My experience spans working with adults and adolescents on anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship concerns, major life milestones. My therapeutic approach is eclectic and client centered, drawing from narrative therapy, CBT, REBT, and trauma informed principles. I have also been working on bringing in a feminist, decolonized, and multicultural lens into my practice, because I noticed that many of the struggles clients bring into the room aren't purely individual. They're shaped by family systems, gender expectations, cultural presences, and structures that mainstream therapeutic models don't always account for.
What makes me passionate about this work is seeing that shift happen, when a client moves from blaming themselves for not 'fitting' into a certain mold, to understanding that some of what they're carrying is not their weight alone. I am also passionate in wanting a session to genuinely feel like a space where people can come with culture, identity, context and more complicated nuances of their life, to meet them where they are.
Outside of my work, I love immersing myself in art and history. That includes gallery hopping, trying my hand at painting and pottery workshops, and taking in time to explore historical sights and art deco buildings. I'm also a part of a few film and book clubs, so there's rarely a week without a good story in one form or another. I also find a lot of peace near water, so I try to add that to my routine as much as I can.
